Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was full of praise for the Gers’ performance in the stunning win over Dortmund on Thursday night – but after Aston Villa’s latest Premier League defeat, the honeymoon period is well and truly over in the Midlands.

Gerrard’s exit in November left some Gers fans unhappy but prompted plenty of optimism among Villa fans having guided the Light Blues to 55 and successive appearances in the last 16 of the Europa League.
However, a 1-0 defeat at home to Watford this afternoon leaves Villa 12th in the table and closer to the relegation places than the European spots.
With only one win in their last eight games having won four of their first six in charge, Gerrard’s side are rapidly sliding down the table.
My Europa League Predictions.
Villa fans on social media were furious after the defeat by the Hornets and the pressure is starting to really build on Gerrard.
While he’s not going to face the sack any time soon, he’ll need to turn things around quickly – and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s starting to second guess his choice.
There’s still plenty of time left in the season for Gerrard to get Villa heading up the table but things definitely haven’t started off how he’d have hoped.
It’ll be interesting to see just how he copes with trying to turn Villa’s fortunes around and whether he’ll dent his reputation after some fantastic work at Rangers.
Meanwhile, a versatile Rangers-linked attacker is back impressing at his current club and is set to be available on a free at the end of the season.
