FLINT, MI – A Goodrich man accused of criminal sexual conduct will remain jailed ahead of a future trial in his case, which has been delayed so the officer in charge of his investigation can go on their honeymoon.
Ryan Michael Coates, along with his attorney, Scott Bigger, appeared via Zoom before Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth A. Kelly on Thursday, April 28, for a final pre-trial hearing in which Kelly denied a motion seeking bond for Coates.
During the same hearing, Kelly granted a motion adjourning the case until June because the lead investigator handling the case for the Michigan State Police will be leaving the state for their honeymoon.

Coates is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of attempted second-degree criminal sexual conduct second, and one count of accosting children for immoral purposes.
He was arrested in October 2020 and has been lodged in the Genesee County Jail since then. His bond is set at $180,000 cash/surety.
Coates’ arrest came following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The investigation was initiated when it was learned that child sexually abusive materials were being shared on the internet. Police said they found digital evidence, which was seized from Coates’ home.
A new pre-trial date is scheduled for June 7 in Kelly’s courtroom.
