It’s an extended holiday weekend of racing action featuring special Memorial Day cards on Monday from such major tracks tracks as Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Monmouth Park and Santa Anita.
This week’s edition of Super Screener, the time-tested and data-drive handicapping method pioneered by author Mike Shutty, includes analysis and suggested wagering strategies for a quartet of stakes races including the $100,000 Honeymoon (G3) for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita on Sunday.
In the Honeymoon (G3) going 1 1/8-miles on turf, Cairo Memories for trainer Bob Hess is the 6-5 morning-line favorite in a seven-horse field. While Super Screener is expecting a “sharp effort,” from the favorite, it tabs Ballet Dancing, 6-1 on the morning line, as “the most reliable board hitter” and “top value.”
Trained by Simon Callaghan, Ballet Dancing is coming off maiden win going a mile on the turf in just her second start and first off a nearly seven-month layoff May 7 at Santa Anita. By Medaglia d’Oro, Ballet Dancing was an $800,000 auction purchase for the Coolmore connections of Magnier, Tabor or Smith et al.
Notes Super Screnner, “(Ballet Dancing) will likely get overlooked in the wagering as a result of having just broke
her maiden as well as having made just two career starts. The pace set up very well for her maiden win as it was swift and pressured and she closed into those fractions
but showed great balance in the process.
“That win came after a 7-month layoff and form cycle analysis is flashing a strong move forward here. In addition to that great
balance, her breeding suggests she’ll relish taking on the added ground. The barn is effective in wheeling back maiden winners into an immediate follow up victory. She
offers great value.”
Detailed analysis of suggested wagers of the Honeymoon is just part of what’s on offer in this week’s Super Screener. It also includes deep dives into the Steve Sexton Mile (G3) at Lone Star Park, Soaring Softly (G3) at Belmont Park, Keertana Stakes at Churchill Downs and the eighth race at Belmont Park on Saturday.
