(Rutherford County, TN) Three years ago on September 21, 2019, Dr. Nadine Rampp and Dr. Bobby Rampp declared their love for each other and married in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Among other interests, they shared a unique passion for the medical world. While they were both in a surgery residency program at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, they met, fell in love, and started their life together.

Dr. Nadine Rampp, now a general and bariatric surgeon at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, grew up in Arkansas and graduated from the University of Central Arkansas. Although she didn’t have any persuasion to go into the medical field, she always found sciences fascinating. She moved on and started her medical journey at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. “During my time at the University of Arkansas, I rotated with surgeons and enjoyed that specific field,” she said. “Despite the long grueling hours, I was still attracted to it. I enjoyed working with my hands and the gratification you get from operating.” After graduate school in Arkansas, she moved on to her residency program at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, where she met Dr. Bobby Rampp.

Dr. Bobby Rampp, now endocrine surgeon at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, was destined for medicine. He grew up in Mcminnville, Tennessee, and was raised by his father, a physician, and his mother, a nurse. He attended undergraduate school at Lipscomb University. “Just like my parents, I had a passion for helping people and found interest in medicine during undergrad,” he said. “I decided to apply for medical school and started my medical career at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis.” While he was there, he found a love for the surgery side, applied for a surgery residency program, and matched at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga.

While Dr. Bobby and Nadine Rampp were both in the surgical program in Chattanooga, they got married. They wanted to continue their medical careers and applied for fellowship programs and were fortunate enough to both match at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Nadine Rampp went on to specialize in bariatrics and minimally invasive surgery, and Dr. Bobby Rampp specialized in endocrine surgery. During their time at Duke, they had a baby, Jude, who is now 11 months old. “After many years of schooling we were looking for a place to put roots,” said Dr. Bobby Rampp. “Tennessee felt like home to us.”

In September, they are celebrating three years of marriage, the first birthday of their son, a new city, and new careers. “It’s been a busy month,” they said. “But we are so excited to start this new chapter of our lives at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford.”
